EVERTON VS LIVERPOOL MATCH POSTPONED OVER WEATHER CONCERNS

The highly anticipated final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park between Everton and Liverpool has been called off just four hours before its scheduled kick-off due to severe weather conditions brought by Storm Darragh.

The game, originally set to start at 12:30 pm, was postponed following a decision by local authorities, with Everton citing "adverse weather conditions" in their official statement. Storm Darragh has caused nationwide disruption, bringing winds of up to 92mph, widespread travel chaos, power outages, and structural damage.

Liverpool FC echoed the concerns, stating that "severe weather and high winds" had led to significant travel disruption around Merseyside. After a Safety Advisory Group meeting at Goodison Park, involving club officials, Merseyside Police, and Liverpool City Council, the match was postponed due to safety concerns for fans, staff, and players.

"This decision is deeply disappointing for supporters," Liverpool said in a statement, "but safety is of paramount importance." Details regarding the rescheduled match and ticket arrangements will be shared soon.

The fixture held special significance as it was set to be the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park before Everton's move to their new £760 million stadium at Bramley Moore Dock next season.

Storm Darragh has prompted a rare "danger to life" red wind warning from the Met Office, with the most severe conditions expected across Wales and southwest England. An emergency alert was issued to over three million people in the worst-hit areas, urging them to stay indoors and avoid travel.

While Liverpool is under an amber warning rather than red, the region has still faced significant disruption. Nearby, the scheduled races at Aintree were also canceled.

The postponement adds to a growing list of sporting events impacted by the storm, including Cardiff’s match against Watford, Plymouth’s game against Oxford United in the Championship, and Bristol Rovers versus Bolton in League One. No football matches will take place in Wales on Saturday due to the weather.
