Damina Debunks Claims of Criticizing Fellow Ministers, Clarifies Intent as Gospel Correction

In a recent interview on Jordan 105.5FM, Lagos, Dr. Abel Damina, a prominent Nigerian pastor and founder of Power City International Church, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, addressed accusations that he has been overly critical of other men of God. 

Dr. Damina, known for his passionate and strong stance on doctrinal accuracy, clarified that his comments were not intended to attack or disparage his fellow ministers but were aimed at correcting what he perceives as errors in the teaching of the Gospel.

Speaking to Charles Ideho, anchor of Feedback, a Sunday evening magazine show on Jordan FM, on Sunday 18 August, 2024, Dr. Damina emphasized the importance of doctrinal purity and the need to address teachings that deviate from the core message of the Gospel. 

Hear him, "My intention is not to criticize or condemn anyone personally. If there's any of my messages in which I personally attached any minister of the gospel, let them show me, “Dr. Damina said. 

Continuing, he noted that most of the videos trending online were the handiwork of some content creators a d bloggers, who used them to increase their views and readers, and make money from them. 

"I am simply committed to ensuring that the truth of the gospel is accurately presented and understood.l," he insisted.

It will be recalled that Dr. Damina has gained attention for his outspoken approach to what he calls transactional gospel, tithes mongering, which he believed were misinterpretations and misrepresentations of the Christian faith, particularly those that he argues have led many believers astray. He has often pointed out discrepancies between traditional church teachings and what he considers to be the true message of the New Testament.

On whether not paying tithes could cause a Christian to miss going to heaven, he said there was no truth in that, and that if payment of tithes was so important, Jesus, Peter, Paul, and other apostles of Jesus would have paid tithes and.

“If Jesus Christ, apostles Peter, and Paul did not pay tithes, why should a Christian pay tithes, since Jesus is the one Christians look up to and emulate,” Dr. Damina quizzed.

His remarks have continued to spark debate within the Christian community in Nigeria, with some applauding his boldness and commitment to doctrinal truth, while others view his approach as divisive. In his recent address, however.

"We must remember that our ultimate goal is to lead people to Christ and to help them grow in their understanding of God's word," he added. "If we see something that is not in line with the Scriptures, it is our responsibility to correct it with love and humility."

Dr. Damina's clarification comes at a time when discussions on the interpretation of Christian doctrines are increasingly prominent, with various church leaders weighing in on what they believe constitutes sound teaching. Dr. Damina reiterated that his focus remained on promoting a clear and accurate understanding of the Gospel, encouraging both ministers and believers to prioritize the truth of the Scriptures above all else.
