ESAN WEST PDP MEMBERS THROW WEIGHT BEHIND OKPEBHOLO, DEFECT TO APC

Members of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Ward 7 of Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, have thrown their weight behind the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the forthcoming Edo 2024 governorship elections, Senator Monday Okpoebholo. 

The event took place at Ukpenu Community on Sunday 24 March 2014. The decamped members, were received by Hon. Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, the Political Coordinator for Senator Monday Okpebholo Campaign Organization in Edo Central Senatorial District, for Edo 2024, and other APC members in Esan West, including Dame Hon. Esther Ehiaghe, Women Coordinator for Sen. Monday Okpebholo, Hon Theophilous Oseigba, the Youth Coordinator for Senator Moday Okpebholo, and Comrade Blessing Ebhodaghe, the LGA Coordinator for Sen. Monday Okpebholo. . 

Speaking on why they decided to decamp to APC and support the governorship aspiration of Senator Monday Okpebholo, a minister of the Gospel, Apostle Dr. Bright Oseighae, said that the good works and goodwill of the Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District in the Upper Legislative Chamber of the National Assembly were the driving force. He noted that he and other former members of the believed Senator Okpebholo as governor of Edo State would certainly improve the lives of the people in the State at a critical time such as this when almost everything had become uncertain.

Hear him: “We decided to leave PDP and join the APC, today, because of the good works and goodwill of Sen. Monday Okpebholo. In addition, I believe it will be the force that will help improve the life of our people in the State at this critical time where almost everything is uncertain. 

''The present government in the State does not have compassion and plans for the citizens. I have heard and seen what the distinguished Senator has done for the people and communities in Edo Central and I believe that when we join hands with him, he will do more, and extend his hand of fellowship to us here, in Ukpenu community. That is what led me and my fellow brothers and sisters to join the party today in order to work with him to achieve his aim of becoming the next governor of Edo State, come 21 September 2024, by God grace. We have being prayerful and we will continue to pray without ceasing for his success, which we know is not negotiable.”

On his part, Comrade Victor Odigie, popularly called Victor Best, who incidentally helped to organize the event, noted that with the eventual victory of Senator Opkebholo as Governor to Edo State Ukpenu Community would not be left out of the development roadmap of the state under his administration. 

Comrade Odigie made a case for specific projects that the Obaseki government abandoned, which he and he decamped members believed would receive the attention of the Opkebholo administration. They include, the drilling of a borehole in Ukpenu Community to make portable water available to them; the construction of the Ukpenu, Emuhi Ugiame Ehor Road, which used to be a more accessible to Benin City, and an access road  to the hub of pineapple production in this country; the repair of the access road in and out of Ukpenu village, to improve the economic wellbeing of the people. 

The broom, the symbol of the party was later handed over to Apostle Dr. Bright Oseighae, and other decampees by  Hon. Aifuobhokhan, who congratulated them and promised that their welfare would receive the attention of Senator Okpebholo. 

Other leaders present were Aisedionlen Joseph, former Chairman, APC, Esan West; Jerome Osatohamen Ikhiakhina; Eziekel Airemen; Mrs Obehi Eromosele; Famous Ibhafidion; Saturday Osin, and a host of others.
