PROF. IHONVBERE DENIES CRITICISING SENATOR ALIMIKHENA FOR VOTING AGAINST E-TRANSMISSION OF ELECTION RESULTS

A member representing Owan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, has denied criticising the Senator representing his Edo North Senatorial District, Senator Francis Alimikhena for voting against e-transmission of election results. He was quoted by a section of the nmedia to have said Senator Alimikhena behaved as though he abhored Nigeria’s growth. 

However, Prof. Ihonvbere while hosting a town hall and Owan Stakeholders meeting from 19th-23rd July, 2021 in Afuze, Owan East Local Government Area, had, in a later interview with newsmen, lamented the deliberate attempt by some senators, Alimikhena inclusive, to frustrate development in the country. He condemned their attitude to things that would help in not just the growth of the society but also "enhance competitiveness in the sub region."

“I support electronic transmission of results, I know INEC has the capacity for electronic transmission, unless INEC wants to say those card readers they sent to different parts of the country are for decoration, in which case, all the elections we used them for will be cancelled. But it is not! The card readers use SIM cards and in the over 190,000 polling booths there are card readers using SIM. 

“People are writing WAEC, people are writing NECO, they are doing computer based tests. Nigeria must move forward when the country will advance to a level that everyone would agree upon. Other countries are moving forward, including Rwanda, Ghana around us. So, I support the electronic transmission,” he said.

Recall that members of the Edo North Solidarity Movement had ealier disowned Senator Alimikhina over his decision to vote against the electronic transmission of election results. 

The Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiogwe made it clear that the Senator did not serve the interests of Edo North but a tiny and rudderless cabal. The group vowed that Senator Alimikhena was politically dead in the region!
