VEHICLE PLUNGES INTO RIVER ON BENIN-SHAGAMU ROAD

The Federal
Road Safety Corps Ogun State Command has announced that a vehicle plunged into
the River Ososa in Ijebubode in Ogun State while traveling on the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode- Benin Expressway on Saturday 28 September 2019 at about 0615pm.
In a released
signed by Florence Okpe, Public Education Officer Federal Road Safety Corps
Ogun State Command, the crash occurred when the lone occupant who was driving
lost control and flipped into the River Ososa. The man who drove the vehicle is
a non academic staff of the Tail Solarin College of Education (TASCE), Ijebu
Ode, Ogun State.
The FRSC
rescue team moved in immediately to the scene for rescue operations.

Rescue Team includes the recently recruited professional divers.
It will be
recalled that the FRSC Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi MFR mni NPoM, recently
recruited professional divers for the Corps and some were strategically posted
to Ijebu Ode.
They
participated in the rescue operations by diving into the River to conduct
rescue operations. The FRSC efforts were later complemented by other relevant
rescue and emergency agencies with supports from a construction company, RCC.
As at time of thus
report the ill fated vehicle, a black coloured Honda Civic with registration
number EPE 892 CV has been recovered from the river.
The operations
by the divers are ongoing aimed at recovering the lone passenger in the ill-fated
crash.
The occupant
of the vehicle was said to be travelling from Ilaro to Ijebu Ode, both towns in
Ogun State, when the accident happened.
The FRSC
Sector Commander Clement Oladele has again advised motorists to drive
cautiously especially around Bridges and reduce speed to prevent plunging into
the rivers.
The Sector
Commander has assured that the rescue operations would not be called off till
the man is brought out from the River.
The Sector
Commander has also engaged a Construction Company, RCC, to ensure that the
safety railings around the bridge and other Bridges enroute the Sagamu- Ijebu
Ode-Benin Expressway be replaced before the completion of the corridor
currently undergoing rehabilitation, to prevent motorists crashing into the River.
