5 DIE IN ROAD ACCIDENT ON LAGOS-IBADAN EXPRESSWAY
A fatal road accident involving a white coloured Mazda
commercial bus with registration number WWD 302 CB, reportedly travelling from
Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria has claimed five lives.
In a press release signed by Florence Okpe, Route
Commander Public Education Officer Federal Road Safety Corps Ogun State Command,
the bus was heading towards Lagos when it lost control at Onigari, a town bordering
both Ogun and Oyo States respectively, due to excessive speed, and subsequently
ran into a road median resorting in the vehicle upturning and bursting into
flames.
The accident was reported to have occurred at about
0849 hours on Friday morning 20 September 2019 on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The manifest revealed that the bus was conveying 18
passengers, comprising 17 adult males and one adult female, of which a total of
10 males sustained varying degrees of injuries from the crash. Sadly, five passengers
(four males and the only female) were reported to have lost their lives.
The FRSC Ogun State Sector Commander, Clement Oladele has commiserated with the families of the crash victims and advised members of the public whose relatives travelled, requiring more information about the crash, should contact the FRSC Command at KM27 Ibadan-Lagos Expressway at Ogunmakin or the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, where the injured victims were rescued to.
