Nigerian born- Austria International, David Alaba, has revealed
that he opted against playing for Nigeria because he was asked to pay a bribe
so as to get a starting shirt during the 2007 FIFA U17 World Cup.
The Bayern Munich left-back further disclosed that the late Yemi
Tella was the Golden Eaglets coach at that time. He said he would have paid the
bribe but for his mother who insisted he mustn’t do so.
The defender added that he was in camp with the likes of Lukman
Haruna, Macauley Chrisantus and Rabiu Ibrahim during preparation for the
tournament. He described Nigeria U-17 coaches as jokers.
